This Summer, the Town Council of A Pobra do Brollón offers four tour options: Penas do Castelo, Cova das Choias, San Lourenzo Hillfort, and Vilachá wine cellars and viewpoint.
The tours are available from July 21 to September 14, at the following times:
San Lourenzo Hillfort: Monday 6:00 PM / Tuesday 11:00 AM / Wednesday 11:00 AM
Penas do Castelo: Monday 11:00 AM / Thursday 11:00 AM / Friday 6:00 PM
Cova das Choias: Tuesday 6:00 PM / Thursday 6:00 PM
Vilachá Wine cellars and Viewpoint: Wednesday 6:00 PM / Friday 11:00 AM
Advance booking is required for all tours by contacting (+34) 603965082 (at least 24 hours in advance, preferably via WhatsApp).
Weekend tours can be arranged upon request (subject to availability).
The cost is 5 euros per person (free for children under 12). Payment is made directly to the guide at the start of the tour.
Group sizes are limited to 15 people, except for the Cova das Choias tour, which has a maximum of 10 participants.
Penas do Castelo
An intriguing archaeological site overlooking the Lor River in the protected Courel mountains.
While taking in stunning views, we will learn about the landscape, history, and traditions of the parish of Salcedo, famous for the Entroido do Oso (Bear Carnival), but hiding many more surprises.
Practical info:
Meeting point: In front of the information sign (Click here for Google Maps location). To reach the meeting point, you must travel 2 km on a track from the village of Salcedo.
The site is located on a steep slope.
Cova das Choias
A cave inhabited by luminiscent moss, bat colonies, and mythological beings.
This is a highly restricted visit, both in the number of people and the number of times access is allowed per year, in order to preserve the flora and fauna.

Visitors must have a car.
There is a short walk of about 2 km to the cave, with a gentle incline.
The visit is limited to 10 people per tour.
Vilachá Wine Cellars and Viewpoint
Discover the Ribeira Sacra of A Pobra do Brollón by visiting the medieval wine cellars of A Abelaira in Vilachá de Salvadur, followed by a walk to A Capela Viewpoint, during which we will reveal myths and traditions of the parish of Vilachá.
Once at the viewpoint, we’ll see the archaeological site of Os Conventos, where the first scientific dating of the Ribeira Sacra’s terraces was carried out, and reveal its history, which helps us understand the origin and evolution of this landscape.

The walk to the viewpoint is a 3 km round trip.
San Lourenzo Hillfort
An ancient hillfort featuring a historic church and a medieval cemetery. Learn about the history of this place and the parish of Cereixa through a community archaeology project in which both past and present-day residents are the true protagonists.
